Inspired by my Romanian rescue dog, Daisy ~ who has truly mastered the art of the post-nap grump ~ this piece captures that legendary “don’t talk to me yet” side eye we all know and (sometimes) fear.
Originally created with textured paste and acrylic on canvas, Morgenmuffel is full of character, from the tousled fur to the unmistakable expression of someone who’s been woken up far too soon. It’s named after the wonderfully specific German word morgenmuffel, meaning “a person who is grumpy in the mornings” ~ and honestly, if you know one, or are one, this will hit home.
